Monache Meadows Wildlife Area is in a remote area of the Kern Plateau, situated within Inyo National Forest, and includes parts of the South Fork of the Kern River. This high elevation sagebrush meadow region is home to some of the last populations of golden trout and serves as a habitat for the Sierra Nevada fox, wolverine, Sequoia trees, and spotted owl.

Monache Meadows can only be accessed by four-wheel drive vehicles on a total of 19 miles of technical 4×4 dirt trail. Camping is dispersed, and no services are provided.
