The Outlaw

The Outlaw

Carl’s first exposure to the outdoor world was playing in the woods in Greenville, Kentucky as a child.  He, then, traveled through the Arizona plateaus and had an appreciation for the colors of the landscape. His first backpacking trip was in his mid-20’s to the Santa Paula Punchbowls.  He went on to study with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) in Alaska, got a WFR (Wilderness First Responder Certification).  He started visiting the Sierra after a visit to Real Cheap Sports twenty five years ago, where he learned about the Hetch Hetchy area of Yosemite National Park. Significant outdoor trips have included rock climbing, mountaineering, and backpacking.  These days, Carl is stil pursuing outdoor adventure in the Sierra regularly.

Carl’s favorite product is the Patagonia Houdini Jacket. He says it is a “must piece of gear.”  He brings it everywhere because it is a wind jacket that traps body heat, deploys easily and can clip to a climbing harness.
